Marie Kean was an Irish actress who has made a significant contribution to Irish cinema, television, and theatre. Kean was born in London in 1922 to Irish parents and raised in Ireland. She began her acting career in the 1940s and became a well-known figure in Irish theatre in the following decade. She had a long career spanning over six decades, during which she starred in over 50 films, television shows, and theatre productions.
In 1958, Kean played the role of 'Alice Foley' in the film Mise Éire, which is considered to be a milestone in Irish cinema. She was cast as the lead in over 20 films, including The Gentle Gunman, Darby O'Gill and the Little People, and Strumpet City. In addition to her work in film, Kean also had a successful career on stage, performing in productions such as Radio Free Brian, Oedipus Rex, and The Field.
Kean's talent and hard work earned her recognition and accolades throughout her career. She received numerous nominations and awards for her performances, including five Irish Film and Television Awards, a Jacob's Award, and an Honorary Degree from Trinity College Dublin.
