Max Neufeld
Max Neufeld Bio
Max Neufeld was an Austrian film producer, director, and screenwriter. He was born in Vienna, Austria in 1887 to a Jewish family. He went on to establish himself as one of Austria's leading filmmakers during the silent era. Neufeld was also known for his outstanding contributions to the film industry in his country and beyond.
During his career, Neufeld produced numerous successful films that were well-received by audiences and critics alike. He was able to strike a balance between commercial success and artistic integrity, which set him apart from his contemporaries. Some of his most notable works include “Man’s Calling” (1922) and “Twin Hearts” (1929), which was considered to be his masterpiece.
The rise of the Nazi regime in Germany spelled disaster for Neufeld, however. In 1933, he was forced to leave his native country due to his Jewish heritage. He then moved to Hollywood and set up his own production company, Neufeld Productions. While in Hollywood, he contributed to the making of several acclaimed films, including “Gone with the Wind” (1939). Neufeld’s work continued to receive recognition, and he was awarded several distinctions, including the Knight of the Danish Order of Dannebrog in 1946.
Max Neufeld died in 1967 in Hollywood, California, at the age of 80. Despite his forced displacement from his homeland, he remained a respected icon of Austrian cinema. His legacy lives on, and his work continues to inspire new generations of filmmakers.
