Maximilian Steiner
Maximilian Steiner Bio
Maximilian Steiner was an Austrian composer and conductor, best known for his contributions to the film industry. He was born on May 10, 1888, in Vienna, Austria, and grew up surrounded by music as his father was a successful theatrical producer. Steiner's early musical education came from his father, who taught him to play a number of instruments. After studying formally at the Imperial Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna, Steiner moved to London to pursue his career as a conductor. He quickly made a name for himself in the theater world, and his work caught the attention of Hollywood producers. At the age of 41, he was offered his first film score for the movie "Symphony of Six Million". Steiner's work in Hollywood spanned over three decades and included scores for over 300 films. Some of his most famous scores were for films such as "Gone with the Wind", "Casablanca", and "King Kong". He was known for his use of leitmotifs, or recurring musical themes, which helped to create a sense of continuity and emotional depth in his scores. Despite his success in Hollywood, Steiner never forgot his roots in Austria. He often visited Vienna and continued to work with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra throughout his career. In 1947, he founded the Max Steiner Music Society in Vienna, which aimed to promote new and innovative forms of music. Maximilian Steiner passed away on December 28, 1971, in Hollywood, but his legacy lives on through the countless films he scored and the many musicians he inspired.
