Kenny Delmar
Kenny Delmar Bio
Kenny Delmar was an American actor, comedian, and voice artist who achieved fame during the mid-20th century. He was born on September 5, 1910, in Boston, Massachusetts, and grew up in a working-class family. Delmar began his career as a radio announcer and quickly gained a reputation for his versatile voice and impeccable comedic timing.
Delmar's breakthrough came in the early 1940s when he became a regular performer on the radio show "The Fred Allen Show." He introduced a wide range of characters, but it was his impersonation of politician and notorious isolationist, Senator Claghorn, that made him a household name. The character was a hit and became one of the most popular comedic figures of that era. Delmar's portrayal of Senator Claghorn was notable for its Southern drawl and over-the-top, bombastic delivery.
In addition to his radio success, Kenny Delmar also appeared in films and on television. He made his film debut in 1947 in "It Happened on Fifth Avenue," followed by roles in several other movies. Delmar's most notable film role came in 1951 when he reprised his character of Senator Claghorn in the comedy "The Colgate Comedy Hour." The film was a major success and further solidified Delmar's place in the entertainment industry.
Despite his success, Delmar's career began to decline in the late 1950s, as the popularity of radio shows waned, and television took center stage. He continued to work in both mediums but couldn't recapture the same level of fame. Kenny Delmar passed away on July 14, 1984, at the age of 73, leaving behind a rich legacy in the world of comedy and voice acting.
