Ian Ure, born on October 7, 1939, was a former professional footballer from Scotland who played as a central defender. He was born in Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire, Scotland, but later moved to England where he played for several clubs during his career.

Ure started his career with Dundee United in 1957, where he quickly established himself as a solid defender. His strong performances caught the attention of Arsenal, one of the top clubs in England, and he made his move to London in 1963. Ure's time at Arsenal saw him become a key player in their defence, making over 200 appearances for the club.

Ure's impressive displays for Arsenal also earned him a place in the Scotland national team. He made his international debut in 1961 and went on to represent his country 11 times. Ure played a crucial role in Scotland's successful qualification for the 1966 FIFA World Cup, where he appeared in two of their group stage matches.

In 1969, Ure left Arsenal and joined Manchester United, where he continued to showcase his defensive prowess. However, his time at United was marred by injuries, and he struggled to maintain a consistent place in the starting lineup. Ure eventually retired from professional football in 1971, ending a successful career that spanned over a decade.
