Leon Cadore

Leon Cadore Bio

Leon Cadore was an exceptional baseball player, known widely for his outstanding left-handed pitching skills. Born on November 20, 1891, in Chicago, Illinois, Cadore grew up with an immense passion for the sport. His determination and talent paved the way for a successful career in baseball during the early 20th century. Cadore is remembered for his record-setting performance in a marathon pitching duel that lasted for 26 innings, a testament to his endurance, skill, and dedication to the game.

In 1915, Cadore began his professional baseball career, signing with the Brooklyn Tip-Tops of the Federal League. After the league disbanded, he joined the Brooklyn Robins, later called the Brooklyn Dodgers, in 1916. Cadore quickly gained recognition as a skillful pitcher, known for his powerful fastball and ability to keep hitters off balance. Over his nine-year career, he exhibited consistency and durability, making him one of the most reliable pitchers of his time.

However, it was the legendary game between the Brooklyn Robins and the Boston Braves on May 1, 1920, that catapulted Cadore into baseball folklore. The game, famously known as the "26-inning tie," saw Cadore and opposing pitcher Joe Oeschger engage in an epic pitching duel that lasted more than eight hours. Cadore held the Braves scoreless for the first 21 innings and managed to complete the entire game, a feat rarely accomplished in modern baseball. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Cadore allowing only 15 hits and striking out seven batters. This historic performance firmly established Cadore's legacy as a determined and resilient player.

After retiring from professional baseball in 1924, Cadore remained active in the sport, coaching and managing various teams. He continued sharing his knowledge and passion for baseball until his passing on February 27, 1958. Throughout his career and beyond, Leon Cadore left an indelible mark on the sport, being remembered as one of the greatest pitchers of his era, with his remarkable performance in the 26-inning game earning him a prominent place in baseball history.
