Pete Ladd

Pete Ladd Bio

Pete Ladd, born on June 17, 1956, in Glendale, California, is a former professional baseball player from the United States. Ladd earned recognition for his exceptional pitching skills during his career, which spanned from 1979 to 1986. While Ladd did not achieve widespread fame comparable to some of his contemporaries, he had a solid stint in Major League Baseball (MLB) and made notable contributions to the teams he played for, particularly the Milwaukee Brewers and the Seattle Mariners.

After completing his high school education, Ladd attended California State University, Los Angeles, where he continued to hone his baseball skills. He was eventually drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the sixth round of the 1977 MLB Draft. Ladd's rapid rise through the Brewers' minor league system showcased his talent as a pitcher. In 1979, he received his first call-up to the big leagues.

Ladd's MLB career began as a relief pitcher, where he excelled in his role. With a fastball in the mid-90s and a repertoire of other pitches, Ladd left a lasting impression on teammates and opponents alike. While he played for multiple MLB teams, it was with the Brewers that he experienced his most fruitful seasons. In 1982, Ladd played an integral role in helping the Brewers reach their first World Series, proving himself as a reliable setup man for their star closer, Rollie Fingers.

Despite a successful start to his career, injuries and personal struggles began to affect Ladd's performance. In 1983, he underwent shoulder surgery, and subsequent struggles with substance abuse hampered his progress. Ladd's MLB journey ended in 1986, but his impact on the field and memories of his dominant performances remain. Today, Pete Ladd's name is fondly remembered among baseball enthusiasts, and his story serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by athletes both on and off the field.
