Some cool bands you've (probably) never heard about.
I feel like world has to know of those bands. Just a name, short description and my favorite albums. – Subterranean Masquerade. "A Progressive Oriental Psychedelic Metal band from Israel" is how they describe themselves on official website, which is pretty comprehensive. With mix of clear and extreme vocals, distorted guitars and traditional acoustic implementations they sound like nothing else I know. Most of all I enjoy their "The Great Bazaar" and "Mountain Fever" albums, with a slight advantage for second one. Mountain Fever is their latest release, and it is reasonably better produced. – Arabs in Aspic. Progressive rock band from Norway. Their discography is much larger compared to Subterranean Masquerade, but the most enjoyable album for me is "Syndenes Magi" from 2017, that lasts ~45 minutes, while consisting just of 3 songs, all with Norwegian vocals. In 2023 they have also released English version of album, with minor melody changes. Generally, Arabs in Aspic play huge variety of songs, from your normal rock'n'roll kickstarters to more melancholic and slow paced songs, like the ones from Syndenes Magi mentioned above. If you like the vibe of prog rock bands of 80's and 90's, you will likely enjoy retro style of Arabs in Aspic. – Ursular. Rock band from Germany, currently all their discography consists of a debut album with 4 songs on it, single with 3 songs on it, and one live song, which is just 8 tracks in sum. Nonetheless, I greatly enjoyed "Preta", and I can't really remember anything from my playlist that is similar to Ursular with their saxophone lines and heavy, reverberating rhythm. Their music feels like those people were playing jazz for some time, but then someone got tired and proposed to bring an electric guitar. – Fates Warning. Actually not that "Underground" prog metal band from US, with more than 30 years history. As of now, they have sadly disbanded, and don't have many listeners on Spotify. Fates Warning are much less obscure compared to other bands on this list, and if you've ever heard progressive metal bands like Dream Theater, then you know how it sounds like, and most likely will enjoy them. In my opinion, their best album is "Theories of Flight", consisting of mostly fast and energetic metal tracks, but also with few calm tracks. – Summoning. Austrian black metal band, heavily inspired by J.Tolkien's Lord of the Rings. In their tracks Summoning mostly rely on ambient synth lines that create a strong old-fashioned fantasy vibe, praised by their fans. If you're not really into extreme metal genres, you may be disappointed with screaming vocals and guitars that come along, but in my opinion this is what makes this band truly authentic. Even if you don't feel like listening to any kind of metal, I strongly recommend you to listen to "Flammifer" keyboard cover, accessible on YouTube. This is truly something that touched my heart unlike nothing else in last months.
