Rate the Film: 1990’s Rocky V

Where would you rate Rocky Rocky V? Feel free to express your thoughts and opinions in the comments. For me: ⭐️⭐️. For many Rocky fans, this is considered the worst of the Rocky films and it’s easy to see why. Still I don’t think it’s unwatchable or that bad. I like the idea of Rocky finally retiring and trying to find some purpose in becoming a mentor/manager to Tommy Gun to feel he has something left as well as trying to take care of his family and get the life he had when he was champion. Granted it was kind of done before in Rocky 2, but this film felt different in a sense that it’s for good (for now anyway). Unfortunately Tommy Gun is not interesting and he does make Rocky a bit unlikable because he puts Tommy before his son. The ending also, while kind of different, is a let down. Plus moments like Rocky and his family losing their money felt uneeded but whatever. Also George Washington Duke played by Richard Grant is kind of an entertaining antagonist as this over the top leech of a fight promoter. Still I think there could’ve been ways to close out the Rocky franchise at that time before the sequel and Creed films. Again not unwatchable and in a way it’s kind of a stepping stone for Rocky character to become that manager and mentor that will come later in the Creed films.
