Assuming we are talking something like a Zombie apocalypse, I would take a more intelligent page from The Walking Dead and choose a prison: - Walls for protection. - Ample storage for food, linens, etc. - A full kitchen to cook in. - Water and generator-based electricity when the grids go down. - Large yard space to grow vegetables. - A medical/dental facility on site. - Weapons and ammunition are available. - Most prisons have vocational shops of some kind - wood shops, auto shops, etc. I'm sorted if I need to do repairs. - Receding lines of defense with locking doors to keep enemies at bay if they do breech. So many reasons why a prison would be an exceptional bunker for certain apocalypses. (edited)
