Question for people who like Anime

How do you get past the strange overdone emotion noises all the characters make? I have a friend who tells me about amazing anime shows he wants me to watch, but every time I try it's just so cringe that I can't do it. It seems to me like highschool drama class students trying too hard to convey emotion through grunts and other weird noises. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I get you, and on the long run (for those who are used to it) can also be really annoying. But several anime actually got around this problem and avoided this cringe way to convey emotions too. Give a try to "Just Because!" for example. It's less noisy than the usual.

Watch anime that doesnt do that. My dad is 45, started with cowboy bebop like 3 years ago. Now hes watching chainsaw man, which is too much for me tbh, lol

Haha so what you're saying is that there is a chance. Yeah I haven't found one yet, but I've gotten a few suggestions on here so I'll check them out. Thanks.

That's the problem though, they all seem to do it. I've gotten a couple of suggestions, do you have any? Least cringy anime.

The shows my friend describes all sound like great stories. I just think they are delivered badly.

I actually love it. It signals how the characters feel in certain situations. Our appreciation can oftentimes be limited to our own culture and language. It's hard to appreciate the anime if we miss out on certain nuances. At least with how the characters are expressing themselves, then we are aware of what's going on.

I think they would be alot less cringe if they trusted the audience to be smart enough to understand things like: the character feels betrayed during the betrayal, or shocked during the shocking event. No need to add a strange cringy noise no real person would actually make unless they were actors who were over acting. Facial expressions would do just fine. To the point about different cultures, I've never been to Japan, don't speak their language, and for all I know over there in their language they do make strange noises like that in reaction to life. In which case, you learn somthing new every day 😆.

@Luke I'm more into slice of life anime so little details count. Actually even with action anime those details can count if we also pay close attention. I think it's still an important part to the equation. I also watched anime-inspired Chinese animation (donghua). It's laid back and has less of those cringy sounds or noise you mentioned. Maybe you'll appreciate donghua more. It's just that they don't come up with a lot of it. There's still a limited number of it out there.

@Scarlet Interesting, first time I've heard of donghua. I appreciate your input. When I made my post I figured the replies would be somthing like "you just have to get past it. It's worth it". Wasn't expecting somone who actually likes it. But my post is just my opinion after all, and I understand people can have different tastes. Doesn't make one right and one wrong, just makes them different.
