Manga Recs!

A lot of people ask for recs so I'm going to list some! Some of these you may know of, but some might be older/more obscure. I mostly read manga so that's what I listed, but some of these have anime too if that's easier for you! Just beware that sometimes anime adaptations can be wildly different. 🖤 Gang King: complete, but not fully translated. It's about a high school delinquent who dreams of becoming a tattoo artist after being saved by one. He's so passionate about it he has even tattooed himself. It's hilarious and has a lot of deliquent gang drama of that's your style. 🖤 Dungeons Meshi: on-going, serialized in english. It's a cute little fantasy comedy set in a dungeon. A party of adventurers need to rescue one of their members that got eaten by a dragon on a lower level in the dungeon while they managed to get teleported to safety. Only problem is that they're broke, so they have to eat the monsters to survive, much to the horror of most of the cast! 🖤 Monster: complete, manga has been serialized and finished in english. The anime is good for this one too and has a nice soundtrack, but you won't find it all dubbed if you can't do subs. It's psychological and deals with questions about the worth of lives and morality. The main character is a surgeon trying to track down a serial killer he saved the life of years ago to fix his mistake by taking the killer down. 🖤 Jigokuraku: on-going, serialized in english (aka Hell's Paradise). Cool story and art. Just the right amount of body horror while still being typically shounen. A group of convicts get sent to an island people don't return from in search of a fruit with the power of immortality in order to get out of their death sentences. Main character is a seemingly immortal ninja who just wants to die himself and loves his wife very much! 🖤 Elemental Gelade: complete, but manga got cancelled in its english serialization after 12 volumes. It has an anime but it's bad imo and way different. Kind of an oldie being from the early 2000s. Cute story about a sky pirate who happens upon a girl in a coffin among his crew's latest loot. From there he learns she's from a race of girls who can turn into weapons! She awakens and asks for him to take her to a mystery destination after bonding to him. The only thing stopping them from getting there is multiple organizations and assassins that want her rare powers. Oh, and also, she has no idea where the place is or if it even exists! 🖤 Drifting Classroom: complete, serialized in english. If you're a Junji Ito fan trying to branch out into similar manga try this! It's about an elementary school that gets transported into a hellish dimension. 🖤Dorohedoro: complete, serialized in english. This one was a cult hit horror/comedy manga that recently got an anime. I haven't tried the anime but I've loved this manga for a long time. Devils, and Magicians, and Humans, oh my! In a world called Hole, humans live in fear of magicians from an alternative devil dimension that come to practice their magic on them. The main characters decide to hunt down the magic user who turned one of their heads into a lizard's head. They'll even go into the other dimension on their quest to find a solution and get into some whacky situations with the inhabitants of both worlds. 🖤Ragna Crimson: on-going, serialized in english. Weak Ragna would do anything to stay with his protector, a small prodigy child who is talented in fighting dragons. When his future self visits him and he learns of the tragic fate that awaits them, he abandons his friend to keep her safe and teams up with the ex dragon king to kill all dragons before they can kill her. 🖤Kaiju no. 8: on-going, serialized in english. Simple and aomewhat basic shounen story, but the characters are loveable and it's super funny imo. The main character is refreshingly in his early 30s and... has turned into a monster!? But maybe this is his chance to finally change his career to his dream job of fighting kaijuu and protecting cities from their attacks! 🖤Wotakoi: serialized in english. A cute shoujo comedy about adult otaku. Between the office and comiket, they find time for romance and socializing. It has an anime I think? 🖤Gangsta.: On-going, serialized in English. It has an anime, but since the author has health issues, it's slow to update and you're better off just reading to get the content as it comes. The story and art is soooo good. This is definitely one of my favorites. It deals with a lot of heavy and adult subject material. Mafia disputes, prostitution, war damages, ptsd, and discrimination are abundant. I don't know how to describe the plot other than please just read it and fall in love with the main trio and cry a lot. 🖤Alive! The Final Evolution: complete, serialized in english. This one is also a bit dated. I plan to reread this myself sometime soon. Plot deals with people commiting suicide if that's a trigger. People who survive a suicide pandemic recieve special powers. The main character has to face off against his best friend who changes after the pandemic and also save their other friend. 🖤 Ao No Flag: complete, serialized in english. Cute romance manga that deals with love triangles and LGBT themes. It's really wholesome and I cannot emphasize how cute. It treats relationships and friendships very honestly and straightforward. The main character tries to help a fellow classmate get together with his best friend. The only problem is that hist best friend likes him, not her. 🖤 Liar Game: complete. It doesn't have an anime, but there are drama adaptations. If you've recently gotten into Squid Game, then this might be up your alley seeing as squid game took some inspiration from this. It deals with Nao, a genuinely honest girl, who gets swindled out of money in a gambling type competition between people who were all lured in by money and lands into further debt. She enlists the help of a conman to help her re-enter multiple of these games in order to free herself and others from debt. The only issues are their willingness to comply and her trusting nature. 🖤 Blue Lock: on-going, serialized in english. A Battle Royale style sports manga (soccer). In order to build a national team that can win against other nations, the main characters are put into a special facility by the govt. and have to beat hundreds of other talented players in increasingly difficult competitions to be the last one standing. Everyone who fails out will never be able to play professional soccer in the future and only one is allowed to come out on top. (edited)
