5What’s the most meaningful/impactful anime you’ve ever seen and why?
I know there’s a lot to choose from but I’m curious to see which animes resonated with people. Whether it was the message conveyed or the story and characters involved, what anime really stuck to you after you finished watching it? And why did it move you?

8I remember Elfen Lied really got to me the first time I watched it. I had the powerful theme song as my ringtone for a couple years. The characters were just trying to fit in and not give into monstrosity, but were forced into situations where they had to overcome the stigma of their nature. Or maybe I placed too much meaning into it at the time

4I've seen a lot of anime over the last 35 years. There have been highlights, although both my memory and the sheer amount I've seen would probably make it hard to just pick one. For example, my favorite for about 15 years was Martian Successor Nadesico, and I still love it, but it's not my favorite now. But I'll tell you one that really stuck with me over the years. The 90's classic Golden Boy. It's not long - just a 6 episode OAV when anime in the States wasn't airing on TV yet. I had no idea what it was when I got it, I figured it was just another fan service special. But it turned out to be both more ridiculous and hilarious than I ever could imagine at the age of 18. He has a unique personality that is both ignorant of the ways of the world as well as optimistically curious, with a good seasoning of just personal weirdness with a cherry on top of sexual comedy. It's animated well (esp for the 90's,) and is laugh out loud funny in ways that were suprising and new. I think if you saw it, it would still hold up for the most part today. It's not for everyone, there are lots of dirty jokes and fan service gags, and it doesn't exactly have a serious tone or really any major character development. But if you don't mind, it's really hard not to root for the guy. Give it a whirl. 25 years later, I still remember it fondly.
