Ak work, I overheard a mom telling her son to not do art as a hoddy/ in school and continue sports because he isnt passing his classes. She also said that it's a waist of paper, time, and won't get him anywhere in life. I don't agree with this for obvious reasons, but what are yalls views in this?

I disagree as an artist can become successful, it can even develop into an architecture job if he stays dedicated to improving his skills. It sounds like she's looking out for what she wants, instead of what he wants to do. He has plenty of time to decide on what he wants to become or do.

Sadly something I've experienced as well. Parents are doing what they think is best by guiding their kids to do what they did to survive in our culture. Even though they know they hate what they do in a lot of cases, not all. They suffered by putting aside their hobbies in place of something that makes money to get by, so they teach the same as that's all they know. Breaking the cycle makes people uncomfortable when their whole life is built around how they have survived and believe it's the only way. (edited)
