Paleoart #7 John Sibbick

John Sibbick is another great name in Paleoart, his work has been featured in hundereds of museums and scientific magazines, and some of his work has even become memetic in the mainstream. His work commonly presents dinosaurs in warm colors, modernizing the older 60's style of thick lumbering dinosaurs with more streamlined designs. His patterns are modest, but unique, and the amount of detail he applies to each piece, in striking detail and shading, is mesmerizing and inviting. Often capturing the incredible scale of these animals, his work is oddly inviting, even fantastical. This incredible piece features the fearsome, but rather primitive Ceratosaurus confronting the great titan Brachiosaurus in Jurassic America. Almost like a Greek Epic, the Brachiosaurus towers into the sky, beyond a flurry of Rhamphorhinchids, as the proportionally insignificant Ceratosaurus roars in the foreground, both breaching the treeline. Uncommon, even today, to present a sauropod as so looming and threatening, while we are meant to sympathize with the carnivore, whose perspective gives us a glance into the unbelievable stature of these animals.
