I recently got back into creating art projects as a form of therapy. This is the first project that my mind has let me finish. I come from a culture that looks at death in a different light. As a Mexican, we celebrate life and death. One of the ways our culture continued a pre colonization tradition of celebrating death is by seeing death as a Saint rather than a "monster" to fear. She is looked at for protection, guidance, and peace. "She brings light in the darkness and hope in despair. When you take her hand you'll finally see the beauty of life."

I grew up with depictions of death being male, like the Grim Reaper. And recently I learn of Santa Muerte through a podcast, of all things. I like how he carries a landscaping tool. To depict that he works for the land, not to kill. (edited)
