Being nice or flirting
I have often wondered why some people believe that being nice, chatting and in the real world, smiling, becomes flirting. By nature I like to listen to someone and I do smile a lot when talking to someone. However, I have been told that it is flirting. I think it's often been misconstrued as flirting when showing an interest in someone to get to know them. Its like the people not understanding the difference between love and lust. The lines can be blurred.

I think our societies have pushed men to fear emotions and try to be able to withstand what they think is the harshest treatments in order to be successful, and especially towards other men. So when our human nature requiring compassion and kindness gets filled, our poor emotional education confuses that for love. I also think there's probably a confusion between parental love and romantic love somewhere in there. Although, you shouldn't be discouraged from being kind by fear of appearing as flirting. The problem is very much on the receiving end. (edited)

@Adam - Spot on and given a guy has so few opportunities to impress a woman - they do their best to woe that woman - but on the flip side re the woman’s POV - it’s the guy reading to much into a conversation. But can you blame him? As if the woman is flirting and he takes no interest as Angie is suggesting - she will be offended. Damned if you do - damned if you don’t (edited)

Totally get you!! I used to work at a gas station, and helped a blind guy because obviously, I'm a good person and helped him out. And he asked me out because I was always kind to him and thought I was flirting with him. It happens all the time, I'm being kind and smiley with someone and they will be in my DM later saying I'm cute. But when I'm really trying to flirt, they have no clues 😆
