Autism

People talk about autism like it is a disorder. I think what we call autism might be a cognitive trait that is linked to what we call a "genius" but sometimes it is so extreme as to create a disconnect from the environment. What if this trait is linked to the next stage in the human intellectual evolution. There are just so many geniuses on the autism spectrum. Thats my hypothesis.

The term autism is like the term cancer: a word used to describe a myriad of different phisiological/biochemical/morphological deviations that produces problems within an organism health/expected behaviour. It's better to categorize it as a group of things: pervasive development disorders, or autism spectrum disorders.

I think the majority of people on the autism spectrum are capable of adapting to social environments. But I also think that in a lot of situations, they would not want to adapt to a self destructive environment. It seems that when labeled with autism, one has that aspect of their psyche focused on in regards to their personality over all of the variables that make up everyones personalities. For example; I could see people with autism experiencing more rejection than an average person, thus perpetuating anti social behaviors. It is hard to say since something like 90% of all people diagnosed with autism do not have an identified cause for their autism. (Etiology) (edited)
