Ah, and here I thought that I was the only one who took stupid chances working on my truck in sandals😄 I don't recommend welding as such however....it's not terrible but melted metal spattering your bare feet is not something I'd do for fun.

@Gloria I haven't tried plastic welding yet, just mig & stick. Probably should though given how much I break the stuff😄 If only everything was made of surgical grade stainless steel or titanium.

@Gloria The sun out there must do a number on it. Plastic & fiberglass body parts do alright here but after 15-20 years any connectors or hard plastics crumble into dust. Metal on the other hand, if it's not washed constantly the road salt just eats through it like termites through wood. I've seen vehicles still under warranty with rot. My last truck (99 F150) had over five cracks in the frame from rot😵 When it was towed to the junk yard, the frame finally split completely at the cab/bed gap.

@Gloria Ah ok, I was gonna say I thought Az was like the great protector of steel, kinda like Ca. If I could afford to haul back a classic 4x4 truck from out there, even with a blown engine/tranny it would be worth it. There's some abandoned mining town I saw a video of, it's loaded with mint cars & trucks all the way from early Model T's up to 70s stuff. Faded paint & interiors but nothing that can't be made right in a month or so.

@Gloria Here's one in Nevada: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=eYip8YobU_s Dunno who (if anyone) owns them but it would be easy to grab one with a flatbed at night then get a clean title through the Vermont DMV. So much automotive gold there.

@Gloria Google earth is another good source. If you start scanning the deserts surrounding you in say five mile sections at a time you'll find a decent amount of derelict cars/trucks abandoned during both the depression or when hippies tried living out there & blew the engine during the 60s. If there was an ocean coastline within 50 miles, I'd be out there gathering up all the cars I could store.

@Gloria It's definitely an expensive one, from the time I started driving until 2016 when I sold my Camaro, all my extra money went to two things....parts to go faster & the gas for the cars which got about 5mpg if I was lucky😄

@Gloria I probably adjusted the carburetor & timing more than I worked out🤣 The car sickness is real.....or as the guys at Cold War Motors call it, "the sad b@stards club". It's a fun club.
