I started a year ago and love it. Just dont let your ego be your elo and you'll have fun. I play casually. The one thing about chess though is you will hit a point to where you feel like you are getting worse at it, but when in reality you're just starting to see the things you didnt in the beginning. Lichess is a great place to learn and play. Chess dot com is where all the heavy competition is though. You can also export PGNs from chess dot com and import them into lichess to analyze your games for free
