Why Early Christians Would Refuse Modern "Dating"

The modern concept of "dating" —characterized by individualistic, transactional, and algorithm-based interactions— is a relatively recent invention (around 100 years old) rather than an ancient tradition. The creator argues that early Christians approached finding a spouse as a sacred, communal vocation rather than a search for personal status or entertainment. Key Takeaways: The History of Dating: The concept emerged in the 20th century due to urbanization and youth culture, shifting romance from family-supervised environments into public, isolated settings. The Christian Perspective: Early Christians inherited communal models from ancient Israelites, where marriage was intentional and public. They elevated marriage to a holy sacrament, emphasizing mutual fidelity and the reflection of Christ's love for the Church, rather than mere political or economic contracts. Ancient Wisdom: Church figures like Tertullian and St. John Chrysostom advocated for marrying within the faith and prioritizing spiritual character and soul-beauty over external physical appearances. The Modern Crisis: That current "swipe culture" fosters isolation and fragility. That by returning to community-centered, character-focused approaches, modern marriages could be restored to the sacred covenant intended from the beginning. "early Christians inherited communal models from Israelites, where marriage was intentional and public. They elevated marriage to a holy sacrament, emphasizing mutual fidelity and the reflection of Christ's love for the church, rather than mere political economic contracts." This is objectively wrong. Go read the old testament laws for the Jewish people about marriage. They are property laws because wives were property of their husbands in Jewish culture. 😊 You don't even have to look to external historical sources to find this. Stop trying to make what they did in the past seem superior to the present. Especially when the way women were treated in those cultures was clearly unacceptable.

Part 4 So with all that historical facts pointed out... conflating a heavily patriarchal social structure with absolute property ownership overlooks the actual legal rights, protections, and covenantal language embedded in ancient Israelite marriage traditions. Try to read the good book next time properly and not what modern progressive tell you what it say. God bless you sir ☺️ I'll pray for you.
