Building culture: agreement vs acceptance of values
Are politics downstream of culture or vice versa? Why not both, despite the destruction of the metaphore? The idea that there is neither flux nor interconnectivity in all things culture, society and economy is obviously wrong and comes from the -valuable- attempt of isolating for more focused analysis. But eventually, we have to put things together again and try to see them in their full context. Culture is the sum of all activity within an assumed sample (a nation, tribe, school, religion, etc.). We limit and define that set, to get results but the lines and borders are "blurred" and all too often we ignore that in the process. In order to identify the culture we wish to belong or evaluate, we apply definitions that seem to make sense at the time, and those definitions are mostly based and agreement and acceptance. The more we can agree with, the more we accept the points we disagree with. The things we do for identification and belonging... Besides the need of participating and integrating, that actually shows the importance of values. Even most intolerant minds compromise in order to uphold the values they most fiercely believe in!
