In US, commuting on train is considered for poor people?

I've heard of this rumor, so I wanna make sure.

Public transportation isn't very popular over here in general. Most cities don't even have passenger trains.

Why can it be possible? Living in the richest country. But you can't even take a train.

Honestly, it's all about our independence. We would rather choose where we go and when we go there than to adhere to a train schedule.

But even though you use a car, your economy depends on international oil price(you can say depending on OECD too). Isn't it okay? Isn't it the reflection of poor public math education?(I'm not insulting. Just to be sure.)

Right, but our cities aren't really designed to accommodate trains at this point. If you wanted to build them You're taking about billions of dollars per city, then you have to deal with the bureaucracy of local government public works departments and zoning boards which would hold construction up for at least a year while they find every possible way to embezzle as much money as they can. Can't forget that a project of that nature would probably take about a decade at least with the pace our workers would go because it's financially a better move to ride the time clock when you literally can't be fired for productivity. It's honestly cheaper to leave it alone.

I'm not interested in building a railway. And you can say the same thing every city which is developed because of land price. But I can point out the difference the two country. In Japan it's not rare there's a connection between the construction company and the ruling party,LDP.

I think it basically ends up as car companies want you to buy a car, so they lobby in order to keep public transit down.

If it's true, they use such a dirty promotion, they're too bad at selling cars. So miserable.

Unchecked corporate greed combined with fairly sketchy politics. Same reason our health care system is so insane.

Car manufacturers and oil companies bought all of the urban rail transportation in the 1930s and 1940s and they shut them down. They did this to make sure people needed cars and gasoline. They also used their money to make advertisements and propaganda to make cars mean freedom in the minds of Americans. They changed traffic laws to take the streets away from pedestrians and bicyclists and blame car related deaths on people walking instead of drivers. Just another example of American oligarchy and corruption.

You have to take into consideration アメリカは大きいです. Major cities have trains and subways, used often by locals for many purposes, theres large portions of the country where it's just not cost effective. Most people have cars to just drive. Oh and how rich can a country be when its swimming in debt?

I have heard this saying as well but I don't think it's true because it depends on where you live and the cost effectiveness. For example, in most part of the New York State, you can't go anywhere if you don't have a car. In NYC, there is a robust subway system that makes riding a train, in many instances, more convenient and cost effective than driving, given that it is a nightmare to find parking in the city, NYC traffic is terrible, and car insurance is expensive. I believe part of the reason why commuting on the train is considered for the poor is that the trains (at least the ones in NYC) are dirty, smell, have homeless riders, and tend to be a breeding ground for crimes. I have a car and still occasionally take the train when it is convenient. The only thing that's holding me back is the increase of crimes on the trains/in the train station.

in the state of new york anywhere in the subway train system it smells like piss. and yes i would say it is considered for poor people even in big cities due to the lack in hygiene. if you cannot afford a car then you have to pay for public transport even if its more expensive on the long run.
