The other day, someone around here was asking about ages in dating. I see no issues with dating younger (or older) people, provided they are of legal age, but one must take a crucial element into account - if you're dating a 21 year old, they'll act as one; and if you're dating a 75 year old, don't (usually) expect to take them skydiving. People usually act their age! Let me give you a bit of a funny example. The other day, a 21 year old girl wanted to talk to me, saying she liked literature too, and that my profile seemed perfect for her. However, in spite of such alleged interest in literature, the very first thing she asked me was my age. And then she insisted a second time, and a third, until I got tired of her insistence and hit "X", since she clearly was more interested in my age than in actually talking to me. This is the big issue. Not people's ages, as a number, but how their experience - or lack thereof - influence how they act... and yet, very few people seem to think about this whole thing, as if a walrus could fly up in the sky... #Dating #psychology #love

I think when people say it doesn't matter, they're referring to it being a non-harmful issue in the sense that it's not unethical or illegal + that age gap dynamics aren't generalizable enough to assume that just because there are cases that didn't work, so will others. I don't think we disagree that people will act their age (or younger or older), but some people are ok with that while others aren't. Where age gaps do become a topic of debate, however, is when you have cases where someone is an adult on paper but cognitively they're still very impressionable and can be easily preyed on or oppressed/coerced/groomed, especially when they also do not have a reliable, non-opportunistic social support system around them. I don't know the case of the person you spoke to, but she could be juggling other stuff too on the side when it comes to the age thing.

Personally, I rarely accept people who are too young; the gap between our generations is just too wide. However, sometimes I come across younger individuals who are much more mature, and we have a good discussion, but obviously, the opening line and profile play a crucial role. And then, if I made a mistake, I unmatch and we don't talk about it anymore.

Age can influence, but it is not the most important thing. I feel more compatible with emotionally mature people and those with life goals similar to mine.

I feel that both the age gap and the age groups matter. There is a big difference between a 20 year old dating a 40 year old, but there isn't all that big a difference between a 30 year old dating a 50 year old. Age isn't the be-all-end-all of dating, but it ain't just a number. And sure, two people in that kinda relationship can absolutely be happy, but I feel that it is the responsibility of the older person to not make the younger one feel like they're trapped.

I don't have a problem with that... everyone rejects me equally, hahaha. Anyway, seriously, it all depends on the situation. Maybe age matters less when it comes to friendship, but in romantic relationships, large age differences can sometimes be uncomfortable. And let's not forget that a person's chronological age is one thing, and their emotional maturity is another—and they don't always match up.

For me, age difference matters, but it depends on what "range" we're talking about. A 20-year-old with a 40-year-old, not really, but if we start from 30 and up, where theoretically one begins to be in true adulthood, the main foundation is there. Then if someone wants to be with a 40/50/60-year-old, that's their choice; the basic difference will mainly be aesthetic, but we expect, on average, to deal with an adult person. Of course, there are always exceptions; those have always existed (both among 20-year-olds and among 30/40-year-olds and so on). Let's be honest, many prefer 20-year-olds for purely aesthetic reasons, also because having a beautiful woman who still looks fresh over the years is appealing (don't deny it, many men have admitted it, and it's well-known), just as it applies to some women who prefer "younger guys"; probably, even on a psychological level, it helps them feel that way (even though let's be clear, from that perspective it's more a matter of "spirit"; there are plenty of people of a certain age who feel like they're 20, obviously with the maturity gained over the years). Then there's the generational gap to consider; that is certainly present, and one must adapt if they choose similar paths; not everyone feels comfortable with it. I myself prefer my peers, at most with a handful (3/4...) of years younger (if we really have to go down) or even 10 years older than me (I'm 40), but indeed, I'm a woman, not a girl. Sure, everyone does as they please, but this remains my general idea, so I'll get along better with those who share the same vision (similar people tend to connect better).

After that, it poses a problem on certain points, it's true. One point to raise is that both people have a significant age difference.
