Do you believe in Fate?

or is the universe really just random? Either way, if you find something that makes you happy, you should embrace it. Friendship, Family, Children, Work, Hobbies, Relationships. ETC. 🥂

It's difficult to believe that it's all intentional all the time, but having said that, sometimes it's impossible for things to be coincidental when they happen and then, you just can't help but believe in the universe. Don't you think so?

We give meaning to the meaningless. At the end of the day a rock is only a rock because we said it is otherwise where do you say the rock isn't just a part of the ground or that the atoms are not just clumped together... Your life means something to you, and potentially others as well. But because only you or a handful of people hold you in a meaningful manner doesn't make you any less important then the sun, the moon the dirt you stand on. You define what has meaning however it has meaning you define what you enjoy and how you enjoy it. Life is literally what you make it, don't let others tell you how you should make it.

According to physics, the universe runs by fate plus some randomness so yes, I believe in fate. Just not that fate limits everything.

@IVY ROSE hmmm I think we have free will. Nothing is forcing me to write this comment and nothing is forcing you to reply. But I think that fate applies to the bigger picture not on the individual level. I mean that regardless of individuals do we will end up in a predetermined place. Of course it's just my mind I don't have any proof. What do you think?

@Huthaifa To have free will is to do something spontaneously without something else causing it and therefore would be random, however free will implies control and therefore cannot be random. Which leads to the need for something to cause it resulting in it no longer being free will.

@Huthaifa well, there is nothing that would prove the other half. Since there is nothing that happens truly at random with seemingly no reason. Also I wouldn't say I believe in determinism as that sounds like I'm subscribing to some cultural fad, it's more apt to say I believe in what is easily provable or that I witness with my own eyes, everything else I trust but question. The only way you could theoretically break the free will paradox is to insert some nebulous soul concept but then you must ask how does the soul effect choices and how does the mind effect the soul... The question wraps round on itself and your back to asking well then something would need to happen truly at random with no prior cause. But that is ultimately not free will is it? Because if it's something truly at random then is it really you making that choice, what happened to the "will" in "free will"... I could go on but I hope that might clear things up a bit.

@Dakota yeah I understand. I honestly did not know much about determinism before this conversation. I will do more research and thinking but I have a couple of questions. 1) does determinism undermine the idea of ethics? 2) if that's true then should any criminal be held accountable or should any good person be awarded? I understand the idea that it will happen regardless I just want to know in a hypothetical society.

@Huthaifa your looking at this the wrong way. Just because something is guaranteed to happen does not mean that ethics and morals become null, your beliefs and past shape your future not the other way around. While the future is guaranteed, we do not know what it is and if we did then it is no longer guaranteed now that we know the future before it would happen. Rather then use this knowledge as a way to absolve people of their wrong doings, use it as a way to prevent their wrong doings. We don't punish wrong doers for what they have done we punish them so they won't do it again, we don't reward kindness because they do good things but to encourage them to keep doing it.

@Dakota OK I got it thank you for the explanation. I agree with you on the last part I was just thinking that some people might use it as an excuse to do what they want but I understand better now.

Science says we are all victims of circumstances. Determinism. While we may feel that we have free will we really don't. Chaotic Determinism is the opposite but determinism makes more sense.

Fate is an invisible force, an opportunity to improve your life when everything has grown dark and tasteless, you can't see it, it comes to you without ones invitation.

Once the internet went mainstream and we got access to immediate knowledge in real time, I feel like the curtain was drawn back. I think most of us are insignificant to the plot, but I think this is all leading to SOMETHING.

I believe in a soft interpretation of fate. I believe that all our actions are our own, and that we indeed have the will to be free. However, I believe the outcome of all our choices are predetermined in some form. If X happens, then Y will happen. An unavoidable consequence determined by fate. I also believe that there are, indeed, a few instances in life that are too coincidencental to be random. I think of it as a story, some events are simply fated to come and pass. Each moment of this random fate is but another story beat within our beautiful tales within life. In short, I guess I could have simply said yes. However I do hope people understand that fate cannot control them, and that their actions DO matter. I have known people who believed in fate a bit too much to understand they had a choice in the matter.

Fate seems like something predetermined for you. I like to make my own choices and set my own destiny. I guess you can look at fate as luck which would be more believable.

Id say i do, ive been reading about free will all through here but doesn't necessarily mean you dont have a fate. Our fate changes based on our own actions anyway, its not set in stone. The thread of our lifeline twists and turns many a direction. In the end we are gonna die, we can only cheat whats destined to happen so many times.

Nah, I don't believe in fate. I believe in coincidences and things happening for a reason. A reason that we make choices, and so we meet the outcomes. Whether positive or negative.
