Willpower isn't enough.
I've known a few people who suffer from depression and think that they can beat it on their own. The problem with this way of thinking is that depression is a mental heath disorder. And if you don't get proper treatment for it, you're never going to get better. If you suffer from depression, I implore you consider going to therapy and/or taking medication for it if you haven't already. I know it can be scary asking for help. But I promise you that there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. In fact, doing these things for yourself to change for the better is very commendable, even brave. Personally, when I started taking antidepressants, it was a huge eyeopener for me. I didn't realize how badly I needed them, and I was able to identify and correct several dysfunctional behaviors as a result. I felt like I was finally able to breathe. It was honestly quite liberating. Once again, if you suffer from depression and haven't sought out help yet, I want to remind you that there's no shame in it. Consider it the first step in your healing journey and overcoming an obstacle that was holding you back. And once you've cleared that obstacle, you'll be on the path to having a better life. It just takes time.
