Based on my experience in terms of learning, (btw I've worked on small projects only till now and was into another field before this) I started using Photoshop out of curiosity and ended up learning about basics of design for some time. This helped me get the fundamentals right and move to UI/UX design. Nailing figma and it's tools is the number 1 thing, being hands on gives a lot of confidence. Then, moving to either creating incredible visuals (ui designer, visual/branding/illustration) or a ux designer who masters in user journeys, research, mapping, IA building a product at a company etc. I wish I had known the importance of using figma the right way and understanding user experiences in depth which simplifies a lot of things.
