When it's time to say goodbye...

I die.. and cry.. a lot... Dear Internet, My dog passed away today. He was 8 years and 15 days old. He was a beautiful mix breed. He was the bestest of bois. He had CHF, which affected his liver and spleen. He was diagnosed a month ago and had been on medications since. He had a follow up checkup last Sunday (Easter Sunday) and came home with new meds. It would be his last car joyride. He spent his last days at home, with his sister of the same litter, whom he'd grown up and old with. He had a last meal of chicken and egg. He had his last doggy treat and also his last stroll in the sun. He laid down under pictures of family and closed his eyes for the last time. My dad was with him in his last moments. Until his dying breath. My dad said he passed peacefully, quietly and with a smile. I couldn't fathom that my kiss goodbye, my last caress of him this morning before I left for work would be the last time. He passed in the afternoon. It was a good day. Even when we buried him in the backyard, under a fruit tree and it threatened to rain, but the weather kept, and the sunset was beautiful. Thank you, beautiful golden boy for being in our lives, for letting us have a chance to love you and loving us back these past eight years. We will miss you, just like we still miss your Aunty Korie, Uncle Paddy and Big Sis Eva; we will continue to love your sister and we will never forget you. We love you so much and we're so grateful for your presence in our lives and in our home. Wherever you'll go, please watch over our family and protect us.
