Tell me about your favorite NPC.

My group had a Rock Golem NPC named Dwayne, that we loved. So I want to hear what NPC you loved!

We had an NPC who I loved dearly. He was a gimmick, but a perfect one. Overly intelligent half orc who realized he was an NPC and would break the fourth wall to exposition the DM's motive.

An animated Skeleton named Mr. Bones. Naturally he couldn't exactly speak so he communicated through gesturing and was the most upbeat skeleton you'd ever meet. The best part was one of our party members (a big half-orc, mind you) was absolutely terrified of him.

So far, I've typically DM'd, so it feels a bit self-centered to talk about my favorite NPC. So Instead, I'll talk about the party's favorite NPC 🤣 The group's favorite NPC was a metallic red Kobold, dressed in dirty rags, trenchcoat, blue beanie, and had a cigar in his mouth. His name was "Mac". Mac's name didn't necessarily come from birth or anything, it was just the only word he could say. Such as, "Hey what's your name?" 'MAC!' "Cool, how old are you Mac?" 'MAC!' "Uhhh. Where... are you from?" 'MAC!' "o h n o." Generally he was smarter than the average Kobold. He could gesture and stretch 'Mac' as a word with different intonations to get across what he meant. He knew what people were saying to him, and he could speak Draconic fluently, but nobody had Draconic in the party. He also knew what to do in most situations, being self sufficient. The party liked him enough that they took Mac along with him, and he ended up being an invaluable asset, though they had to pay him a good chunk of change for his services. What they weren't immediately aware of was that Mac was a reknowned Hitman. He dual wielded revolvers as a gunfighter type of character, kind of like a tiny John Wick. Firearms were super rare in this setting (it is D&D after all), thus, he charged a lot of money for him to work with them because of his skill grade and maintenance costs. Although being staggeringly efficient, they eventually couldn't afford to keep him around, and so they parted ways. He showed up other times, but it was a rare occurrence from then on. Lol they had at least built a comradery with him, but it was "strictly business" when it came to combat.

In a dungeon I had, filled with kobolds, ogres, and headed by a dragon, a single oddity of an NPC: Bob, the Vampire Why Bob? I forgot his actual name, so I said "You can call me...Bob." He didn't attack the players, or seem to have ill intentions, they let him go, and they saw him one last time walking out of the dragon's chamber, nodding in respect as he passed by them.
