Council of Thieves: Saving Private Areal
The adventurers finished convening with the other members. They sat and brainstormed ideas on how to save their leader, and also a name for their organization. After much deliberation they settled on one that incorporates their ideals, and innocent enough to not tip off the guard. The Children of West crown. They know the day the hellknights would deliver Areal to their lair and begin their interrogation, and possibly execution. If he reaches the drop zone then he's a goner. There's no way to rescue him with their current gear (or level for that matter) if they make it. So they buy some me horses for the day, and They set up an ambush and wait for the convoy outside the city wearing makeshit capes and masks to hide their identity. Well most of theirs. It's hard to find stuff for a dragon to wear on the fly. Slowly the prison wagon makes its way to a bridge where they set up the ambush. Once they were in the middle, team a set up a diversion. They looked like highway bandits in the distance. Naturally the hellknights didn't think anything of them and sent a few men to dispatch them. When they were far enough away, team B came out of the shadows and began their attack. A couple of them went down in the chaos. Taking critical wounds during the assault. Still, they pushed through, taking out the captain in charge and freeing Areal. They quickly retreat and make their way back to town. They succeeded! Upon reaching westctown they realized the knights would surely try to arrest them. Areal informed them of some crucial information. Information that helps set the tone of politics in the campaign. The two patrolling factions, the Dottari and hellknights, are constantly butting heads. While the Hellknights are the national police in a sense, the country's policies has some red tape. 1) before any one of the groups can act on a large case, jurisdiction must be established. No one force may act till they establish who's in charge. 2) the hellknights cannot fully act on arresting charges or orders unless approved by the local guard What this meant is the hellknights must get approval by the Dottari commander to detain them. Yes it happened outside the city limits, but since suspects fled into the city they couldn't act without lawful reason to start arresting people they "suspect". Most of the time, the local authorities in other cities let them do their thing. But the Dottari have a long standing conflict and detest the hellknights for various reasons. This makes said red tape near impassable. When they return the horses, they meet one of the comedic antagonists. He's arguing with the stable keeper about him lending a horse he wanted to another group. When they arrive he sees the party and immediately demands the horse. The one in question being ridden by Novena. She's in street clothes and a cowl to hide her identity but hearing him blabber and insult her coworkers she stands up for them! Revealing who she is, the actor soon backs down and introduced him self. Meet Thesing Ulavaud: actor extrordinair! Well known in the city as one of the best and shining forces leading in plays all over West crown. He promptly acts polite to her, trying to swoon her, and giving back handed insults to her and the party as he sees them all as his subordinates. Let that sink in. This man tries to show more authority than a baron. They leave on good enough terms. Given the horse he wanted for his one man show he was acting, and invited Novena to watch his amazing skills at work. She accepts and leaves taking Areal back to the safehouse where they begin the discussion of next steps and try to lay low
