I actually traced and modified some continent layouts that I found online, flipping them around, adding islands, taking some land away. After a week or so of doing that a bunch, I got this, which I really started to add a bunch of aspects to. How Magic works, how some traditional fantasy racesfit in, some new and changed fantasy races that stray from the normal roots a bit. It's been a fun project for the past year or so.

Anyone try making a Fantasy World before?
I've been working on a creative writing project with a few friends for the past year and a half. I got this art of the map I made commissioned a bit ago. Has anyone else tried doing a project like this. I intend to run RPGs in it, and I can't wait to flesh it out more.

Aw man, I do this kind of stuff all the time. It's definitely more researching and studying than writing and creating! I still haven't settled on making geography/maps yet because I have to do a lot more studying on how geography works in the real world... then before you can start designing fictional countries and cultures, you have to study how a region's resources affect their exports, imports, and trade history... then you gotta study how religions and spirituality affect cultural beliefs and attitudes... then you gotta study war tactics and different types of armor and weapons... it's a looot of burying your nose in books, but man is it fun.
