Ehh yes and no. I’ve done it in the past but to be quite honest, it’s not the best determinate of effort someone is willing to put in for the longhaul. I’d try to do other activities mixed in with gaming session dates sometimes

I don't see why not, but if circumstances allow it you should definitely want to have a date in person eventually. Sure things will feel weird, but if you're both comfortable with each other after some gaming sessions then things should be okay.

Honestly if you both are avid gamers sure it can be. It certainly is a good way to learn and get to know somebody. Decent to do before you spend any money at a bar or restaurant with this person. But it's a risky one as some may find it insulting. Good to get to know eachother though. I'd consider it a pre date or something

I would call that hanging out, not a date. It's not a bad idea to hang out with someone before having an actual date tho, specially for socially anxious people

Well it's an icebreaker and to put the foundation of a friendship. Still going on a date has to be physical. But you gain info/intrest about the person what he or she likes to do. And what person it is during the gaming sessions. Now a sidenote too it. If someone is ragey during a gamesession it doesn't resemblence how the person really is. One example that could make pple ragey is Overwatch II. Now also if both parties agree to turn on webcam cuz a monitor is like a safewall too overcome some form of anxiety that could help too. It gives you also the person behind the voice.

I would make sure both parties agree it’s seen as a date. It isn’t really one by default so if you assume and the other party doesn’t see it that way then it probably won’t work as one
