Have you tried Lineage 2? The old versions, like Chronicles 4 are the best. Currently it has been turned into a very bad money sink unfortunately, but there are free servers with old chronicles online
I've been playing some FF14 lately enjoying the crafting. But my first month is almost up. Black Desert was interesting enough and I don't think there was a subscription. But they always find ways to get you to want to buy items from the shop. Elder Scrolls Online might be a good one to look at too. Some more uniquecharacters and tons of content. I think it's free afterthe game purchase.

The Witcher 3 is single player but a must play. Your best bet is monster hunterrise. It's multiplayer online with a huge variety of monsters to kill and just as wide of a variety of weapons items and armor to do it with. Me and my brother have been playing for over 10 years now as the newer versions have come out and the game has never been more fun.

So, I love multiplayer games that are a lot like World of Warcraft, and Neverwinter Nights. I really hate shooter games. But most people do not seem to be into anything without guns. Any game suggestions? Not subscription based?

Warframe has bows and melees and the real skill is in how you use your abilities. Just don’t play Mesa.

If you like survival and adventure games you can try Atlas it's pretty much an open world Pirate game it has a lot of PVE and PVP in it

If you like non competitive MMOs with good stories and art Guildwars 2 is pretty good. If you prefer more intimate coop play Divinity original sin and original sin 2 are great to play with friends and not too pricey on Steam. No subscription necessary.
