Just a hobby, or an escape?

When I was young; gaming was just something fun. As I've grown it's become a stress release at times too, and an escape. In the hardest of times it's really helped me. Perhaps if the media concentrated on that side of it, and the social aspect, it could really be promoted for it's goodness. 😁 I also love to go running, cycle and gym. Let's not be 2 Dimensional. 😅 Anyone else found salvation in gaming? (edited)

It is 100% a good stress relief -- and stressor, come to think of it! Anyone that's ever played a squad-based shooter and watched people ignore the objective knows that anger/rage. Beyond that, though? Absolutely. That, combined with physical exertion/sports/exercise is about the best way to be.

Salvation no, not for me, its just fun and just something I have done my whole life. Having fun especially as an adult is important. Grappling is somewhat similar for me as well.

I don't think it is a salvation. It's an escape, but that teaches avoidance rather than persistence. We battle monsters in games rather than the monsters in life, thereby providing the dopamine that would have been associated with personal development and triumph, and instead, placed into a safer virtual environment. I know this place as I've gamed for as long as I can remember, but there's a balance to be struck with it so that we identify the particular reasons for gaming, when life itself is the most abundant game there is.
