1moNew work on an old song
I started this song with my late wife about 10 years ago. She really liked it back then and I thought it was actually a great song. We never really had a chance to revisit it. It's part of a rock opera and it was the first song that was specifically aimed at it. And I remember I wanted to make it a kind of jazz reggae flavor but with plenty of Rock. So I left a lot of space for some composition in the middle and I played a pretty interesting drum part for the song as it was part of my practice warm up, to play this beat. But, it was a little bit uneven, as I made the whole song without a click track, because it would have been too difficult to record, having to program a click and not even know how the song goes yet. So I just played it with the drums out in space there, and then laid tracks over it. And then recently when I Revisited it I took the first four bars of the drum track and looped it and then beat mapped the rest of the song and regimented the whole thing to fall behind that two bar Loop. Using Pro Tools and elastic audio program to kind of make it all work again. And then I laid down six string bass part, which I actually like, my first time recording with my 6th string. And so far everything is falling really well into place. Our vocals are a lot sharper and in tune when they all start at the same point and a little bit of editing made this thing really shine. Now I have to basically finish the rest of the arrangement and mix it and hope it sounds as good as the beginning does.
