The founding of America

In the early days of our nation many immigrated to America to escape injustice and tyranny in their own lands. They were tired of being mistreated for simply having a different ideology then those around them. Europe was not as it is today. In those days a theocracy ruled it with an iron fist. For much of this time Bible's were not allowed to be owned by the general population, in fact this problem was so prevelant a man by the name of William Tyndale was killed for printing Bible's and distributing them to the public. Only clergy that belonged to the Catholic church were allowed Bible's. This created many problems and many injustices were carried out against freedom loving people as a result. When our founders arrived in America they had one purpose in mind. They weren't all Christian but they all agreed that the larger a government gets the more corrupt it will become. That's why they put a system of balances and checks into the American system of government and established our constitution as the law of the land. You see America is not a democracy nor was it ever meant to be. A democracy is ruled by the majority rule. Rather it is a constitutional republic. The reason we are a constitutional republic is because our founding fathers realized that throughout history the opinion of the majority has often led to devestating consequences in our world. One example of this is in the Roman Empire when the collosiums were viewed by the Roman public as patriotic and beautiful even though many animals were abused and slaves forced to participate in these bloody games. Our founding fathers recognized that all men are created equal and that truth was universal no matter where you were in the world. Yes slavery was still practiced in America but there has never been a time in our history when many American's weren't against slavery. Georgia being one of the first to abolish it shortly after it became a state. Slavery predates Christianity and was common practice in the Roman empire prior to the introduction of Christianity. There is strong evidence that the Christian religion is actually the reason slavery was outlawed as many Christian leaders were speaking against the practice and wanted it to be illegal since the founding of Christianity. This is because the Christian religion teaches that after someone becomes a Christian they are to be set free. In the old testament the Israelites mandated that a slave should not be a slave after six years have passed. This is in sharp contrast to the rest of the world at that time for most most nations held slaves indefinitely. The Christian religion also introduced rights to slaves by teaching that slaves are not to be mistreated.
