I don't know what propaganda machine you grew up with, but it's been common, taught history with every school I've been to that Omaha and Utah were US, while Sword, Juno, and Gold beaches are primarily taken by the British and Canadian forces. I don't know anyone personally in my entire life that believes the US were successful during D-day without participating allies.
