I stopped celebrating all traditional American holidays more than 10 years ago. I don't believe in religion and most holidays are religious based. I also despise the ingrained societal expectations, greed, debt people go into, and the commercialism that go hand in hand with every holiday. I really hate how the school system taught me complete lies about Thanksgiving, now that I know the true history. So on this holiday, I hold space for the people hurt by those lies and the tragic historical events. I do honor giving thanks particularly around this day, by being mindful of the multitude of things I am grateful for. One of the things I am most grateful for is my home and the stability that comes with it. It is the first TRUE stable home I have ever had in my 56 years of life. Tuesday evening the Golden hour before sunset was glorious! The red, yellow and orange leaved trees were all alight with that golden glow. It was so so beautiful and my gratitude cup runneth over.
