@Ashish just gonna repeat: you do so at your own risk. French extremity is very “once you’ve seen it, you can’t unsee it”, but I definitely recommend the 3 first I mentioned, being Hereditary, Midsommar and Apostle, because I’ve seen them, enjoyed them and like the story in them.

@Ashish I like horror, I also dislike being traumatised more than necessary, hence why. Personally I more of a folk, supernatural, haunting, psychologicalkind of person. Something I personally can’t handle that really can ruin any enjoyment out of a movie for me, no matter how good it is otherwise, is seeing when cats get harmed or killed (often just for shock factor). It’s seriously way too common in horror movies, fewpeople seem to be as upset about it as with dogs, personally to me cats hits more personal as I’m a cat person and grew up with many cats. I use the website “Does the Dog Die?” (Also comes as anapp on most OS, you have to pay for it, onetimepurchase, NOT SPONSORED BTW, it’s for the upkeep) and it’s a crowd sourced contentwarning system where people can reportdifferent triggers in movies, TVshowsetc so others can search them up on the site (or app, I use the app) and check (mostly still avoiding spoilers) if a show etc involves something that’s gonna be too much.
For example; I was going to see “Smile” when it came out and knew that the SUI-theme would be a bit triggering to me, especially if I’m not in the best state of mind, but afterchecking it up on DDD? I decided to skipdue to the cat thing.

Hereditary, Midsommar and Apostle are ones I’ve seen. If by “gruesome” you want more extreme than that then “ French Extremity” is a category you should check out, but that is VERY brutal, including movies such as Raw, High Tension and Martyrs. Too strong for my taste though, but I’ve heard about them and watched review videos. Can’t sit through French extremity movies, though I MIGHT give the 3 I mentioned a chance in the future, if I’m in the right mind space, but it’s not really my cup of tea
