The film follows a pair of unrequited lovers as their bond gets torn apart by alien parasites that transform their hosts into necroborgs, hulking abominations of flesh and machine. Naturally, because this is Japan, the miniature aliens pilot these necroborgs like human mecha. And what do mecha do? Yup! They fight each other to the death, with the victor cannibalizing the loser. But will the borg-crossed lovers be able to overcome the parasites holding their bodies against them? Find out more on the next episode of: Meatball Machine Z! Meatball Machine is an unhinged fusion of anime, sci-fi superheroes, and splatterific body horror. The plot is paper thin, pretty much exclusively there to showcase the bonkers necroborg designs and special effects. Naturally, this can make the film feel a bit underbaked if you're wanting something more heady to chew on, but the fight scenes more than make up for that. Meatball Machine takes a lot of inspiration from Tetsuo the Ironman, Biobooster Armor Guyver, and likely many more of those dark, morally gray cyberpunk superheroes, and it's a great time... but likely only if you're expecting something very, very anime. It's not quite at the level of Tokyo Gore Police, but a damn solid entry into the weird, wonderful side of Japan. And no, they never really explain why they're called "meatball achines." 3.5 out of 5 Chads with friggin laserbeams attached to our chests. What did you think of the film? Take care, friends!
