How is racism still a thing?
In this current day and age, it is baffling to me that people think the color of one's skin holds any merit whatsoever. Is it ignorance? Is it just blatant intolerance? It is truly sickening to me and I can't wrap my mind around it...

It's basically a reliable form of manipulation used by many political forces to distract the public from their ownshortcomings. Let's say politician A was embezzling and politician B made a catastrophic decision in a critical moment, which impacted thousands of lives negatively. Neither A nor B would own up to their mistakes or face the consequences of their actions. What they would do is try to convince the public that a certain group, be it immigrants, people with a different cultural background or of a different skin complexion or what have you, is responsible for their problems. Sadly, this works very well with a relatively high percentage of people, because some are looking for simple answers, even if those answers are wrong. This "us and them" mentality can lead people to support whatever plans A and B might have, be it wars, discriminatory procedures or even segregation. In the end, hope is always there, as long as we judge people based on their actions and endeavor to be kind and friendly as much as we can, there is still hope for mankind.

Racism exists due to a very simple premise. It's a psychological stance that humans are born seperate, and are somehow independent from nature and thus the entire world, universe, and on. All forms of prejudice are born from a fundamental belief in seperation. Race is merely one of the many manifestations of that. It's the same reason why you have violence between gangs whos members share the same race, or why even opposing political parties exist with people creating identies claiming that one group is wrong while the other is right. If you think about it, you'll be hard pressed to find a single instance of human suffering, to any capacity, that is NOT due to an interpretation of one's existence being isolated from "others" (or is indirectly caused by it) "You are not me so I must be afraid."
