I've explained this concept a few times and it's always well received, so I will share this with you all, the wider audience who may appreciate something new.

Power Fluid. 

I don't describe myself as a switch, I use the term Power Fluid. Switch is too binary for me - it describes on or off, or a static experience of top vs bottom. Power Fluid, meanwhile, is not only funny because of the mechanical imagery, it's much more accurate. When I'm playing with my partner, we literally flow from who is in the lead by a matter of seconds. 

The best example is how she called me Daddy when I corrected her, and in the next sentence had me saying momma (which I do because she loves it) when she took the lead. We flow easily through the spectrum of D/s, t/b, and so on to the point we don't think about it. There are even times where I will be both at once in the case of playmates joining in. 

Thus, have fun with what may be a new term. If nothing else, it's funny to tell people. They always ask what it means but it's also self explanatory!

Power Fluid - forget Switch

I've been successfully working with a more proactive concept in addition to safe words to ensure both sides of a session have a good time, especially when you don't know your partner very well yet.

One side can simply ask "Sour?" If they are unsure id what's currently going on is fine and the other may simply confirm with "Sweet" if not, "Sour" can function the same as a safe word.

The upside: both sides can ask and neither is relying on one side to shoulder the burden of ensuring their safety alone. This is especially great when trying something entirely new and one side leans towards pushing their own limits a bit further than they should to please their partner.

It also displays an active involvement and care for the partner by whoever asks it without fully breaking the mood like a safe word might do as it is more severe than just seeking reassurance.
