Is Duolingo actually worth it?

What you need is to interpret information, not to translate it. Duolingo relies on translation, that is an extra step you're taking to learn the language you want. I would say not really.

I mean... it's free anyway. And for me it provides a high level of motivation to stick to learning, which is gold to me. If you are thinking about the Duolingo subscription: You do it on their website completely for free and without only having 5 lives. It syncs with app's progress as well, so you can use both. And the website also does work on mobile phone browsers very well. Hope that helps. ^^

Thank you🙂 I was just wondering if others actually find it helpful. For me it's both yes and no. Yes, it keeps you motivated and it's free, but then there is also the word selection seems limited at times. I get repetition, it helps etc but you can also feel like you are not really making progress.

@Pauli Haha yeah, kinda the same for me. I will stick to it just because it establishe a routine - what also helps me is immersing me with the language. I turned my phone and browser to Norwegian for example. Also thinks like comics in the language you want to learn are helpful, since they usually use easier language and the comic panels are kinda memorable. Best of course would be to have friends online or irl that speak the language, but yeah, if you don't have that and feel like you would have trouble to keep on your toes with language learning, I think Duolingo is very worth it still. ^^

@Leo thank you for the tip, although I think I need a bit more practice before I switch my phone's language settings😋 Korean is going a bit slow.

I mean, I basically learned, among other things, the Cyrillic alphabet and some basic Ukrainian, which is a tough language for me. It doesn't teach you enough vocabulary to become proficient, but it's good enough to get started and keeps you practicing regularly.

I think the attraction is the game like set up and then as you said it keeps you practicing.

I would say yes 💁🏻 it's a great app! But once you finish it you'll still need to converse with actual humans to perfect it because it doesn't take accents into consideration and it teaches you things that not everyone uses.
