I have significant confidence in almost everything I do, but speaking new languages is not among those skills lol I took my kid out to try a new Boba tea and shaved ice place I found recently. The lady (who I assume is an owner) was Asian and had a thick accent. Now, I being older and wiser, I never assume I know where someone is from or "what kind of xyz" someone is. So, I asked where she was from after she was explaining things to me. She said she was from China so I told her, "thank you" in Mandarin and at first she was taken back and then smiled. She asked if I spoke it and I told her I know very little, mostly I pick up what I can from Chinese dramas. After she gave us our order I told her, "Thank you," and "see you later" in Mandarin. She seemed happy. I think the other Aisan (male) might be her husband, and probably has been here longer. His English accent are a lot "better" than hers, so he could have come here first or something. I dunno, I'm just making assumptions, but it's still cool. Now I know of two Chinese people I can see periodically and try my skills out on.... sheepishly. (edited)
