Immersion. If you can't travel to the place or be around people who speak the language, watch shows and movies in that language, with subtitles, listen to music and podcasts in said language, try translating and checking your work. If you know people who speak the language, try speak to them in that language and ask them to do the same, so they can help you, with translation, too)... Anything you know well, try do it in the language. For example I have a few shows I kind of know by heart, so sometimes I'll watch them in Spanish.

Learn the IPA of your chosen language first. That way you don't have to concern yourself with spelling. Then learn the phonetics of your language using examples extensively. Write each new word out with IPA and an image. That is the fast way to learn a language at a foundational level.

Just found out one of the slang terms for mopeds in Vietnam is "xe ôm" which literally means (hug car) because you hug the driver as you ride and i just find that so adorable.
