You can't control the emotions you already feel, but you can learn to understand them which will allow you better regulate the feelings you have in the future. One way to do this is journalling; simply write down your feelings (like as a bullet point list). Then ask yourself why you feel each of those feelings, let yourself think of the answers spontaneously and write them down even if you disagree with them (your subconscious might hold views that are blatantly irrational but will cause feelings nonetheless if you don't acknowledge them and leave them unaddressed). To each feeling, you will most likely produce a number of answers to why you feel that feeling. Now for the third step you address the reasons for the feelings. Is the reason irrational? Write down to yourself as if trying to convince that part of you why exactly it is irrational. Is it a rational reason? Then determine whether the reason is something you can control or whether it's an outside factor outside of your influence. If you can't help this reason, there's no reason to worry about it, conclude that it's out of your power. If you can do something about it, write down a plan what you're going to do about it. This way, you learn to understand yourself better and regulate how you feel, because one way or another, you address the root causes of your feelings to the best of your ability. 100% agree with what Carl said. The key is accepting your emotions and knowing that they are neither good nor bad, they are simply tools to alert you that there's something underlying that needs to be addressed. In the moment I find taking a moment or moments to focus on breathing or getting some fresh air help immensely.

Let ur kid help u by bringing flowers (even though fake ones), to tell you to calm yourself/breathe, and to make u laugh when u are sad or frustrated...Like today mine was great when I was feeling a few strong emotions while spending an hour trying to figure out something that probably should have only taken under 20 minutes. It's cute and caring of my kid when she tries to help, unless of course she is the cause of my emotions or makes the situation worse. Or else a nice hug helps...I cuddle my dog and it makes me feel better. Unless of course, he farts then it's not great haha. Then there's alcohol to drown any sorrows too...unless there's no alcohol in the house haha. On a serious note, sometimes meditation or journalling helps others. Or chatting to a friend, or reading positive or funny things. Hope u are able to help regulate your emotions soon...Sometimes things get overwhelming and u just need to break things into smaller tasks and thoughts then it's easier to deal with or understand.
