I'll go first. For me it was a teacher of literature. I remember reading to her the composition about autumn, which - she indisted - I copied from the internet. It was such a bittersweet momen: I was ashamed of being called a liar, but I couldn't think of a higher proof of recognition at the age of 12. After that I took to writing, which led me to the department of Germanic languages and to the profession I never knew I'd love so much. No it's your turn)

My HOD during undergrad didn't let me go to TCU-Taiwan to do research and wanted me to go to places like Wyss Institute at Harvard, UNC-Chapel Hill and UNSW-Sydney. The reason I wanted to go to Taiwan was coz they were offering me full scholarship and other institutes weren't (even though they were accepting me to do research over there), and I had no money back then + I was in edu loan debt. The reason to do this was my dept. wanted to gain fame saying stuff like our students go to places like Harvard to attract/enroll more students in the dept. in the upcoming years. My HOD put allegations on me and made TCU-Taiwan not offer me full scholarship. The allegations were like since I didn't have good grades (as per him), I am not a bright student and I'll ruin the dept.'s name if I go to TCU. On the other hand, the HOD was convincing me to take private loan and go to places like Wyss. I couldn't afford going abroad and went to IISc-Bengaluru for my undergrad project, and won the best undergrad research award.
