This has haunted me for a while now. A handful of months ago, I was convinced that I found the perfect woman for me. She had everything that I was looking for in a partner. Same passions. Same family goals. Even similar birthdays. She lived in a different country and had some self-confidence issues, but those are hardly challenges to me. We talked about marriage. Children. The lives that we would have together. We only spoke for a handful of days before reaching that point. That was crazy. I know. However, we’d both spent over a decade looking for what I believe that we were both seeing in each other, so I think that the excitement got the best of both of us. Things went wrong when she found out that I bought a house. This was before we connected. The house was for a good deal. Mortgages are common in the states. There would be plenty of room to build a life here. The community was also nice. I tried explaining this to her, but she wouldn’t listen. She saw me as a fool for not considering my future wife in making this decision and that I had an obsession with getting myself into debt. Not even knowing her for long, I found her words unnecessarily harsh. After a bit of assurance, she seemed on board. The next day, she blocked me. That was it. I was hurt, to say the least. I still am. More than I should be for how little there truly was. Even so, despite her being wrong for walking away like that, I wonder if I was wrong for not choosing a different living arrangement when I had the chance. I not only live paycheck to paycheck for a house larger than what I need, but I live in it without a wife or children. Maybe my whole life could have been different for the better. A smaller house but filled with a family and some extra money to support that. Maybe she was right. Maybe she was crazy. I’m not sure.
