The woman's loyalty is also tested when she starts outearning her man--just, in a different way; she tends to become petty & loses her respect/willingness to still look up to the guy. In the past, though, women often had large inheritances come their way...technically making them the richer partner--but society didn't encourage her to get a big ego about it. Sometimes scoundrels would marry such women just to get ahold of their money.
