11moMBTI vs O.C.E.A.N
For those who don't know, beside MBTI, there is also the big 5 personality traits (also, known as O.C.E.A.N. I would explain later why it's also called that). I mixed them up in the past after learning about. The big 5 personality traits, so I would explain to those who don't know about O.C.E.A.N, because it is very interesting. First, about MBTI, it is a short for Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (named based on the mother and daughter who discovered it), it splits into 4 main personality types (there is a 5th one as well, but people don't usually consider it): E/I - Extroverted/Introverted: it is about whether you are a person who likes to be in group with others, and socialize with them (Extrovert), vs wanting to be by yourself, in your familiar space, maybe with other people, but those you already know you can connect with (Introvert). As an Introvert, you could like activities that include going out, but not socializing as much, and as an Extrovert, you could also have group activities that are inside your house, like Dangeuns and Dragons. N/S - Initiative/Sensing: whether you prefer thinking about the bigger picture, about how to change the system to your advantage, find new ways to approach situation, which are more effective (Initiative), or prefer to look into the smaller details, become the best at what you are good at, and prefer not to change what's already working (Sensing). I want to add that it doesn't mean that Sensing people are ineffective, as usually the assassin characters in TV shows would be ISTP (characters like Tai Lung from Kong Fu Panda, or Deathstroke from the DC universe. Do what you do best, finish the mission, and don't ask questions. Efficient) F/T - Feeler/Thinker: whether in your decision, do you consider people's Emotions first (Feeler), or prefer to find the more logical and effective decision, even if it hurts other people in the process (Thinker). Sometimes, a feeler could say the worst thing to you, if it means it would make you grow, and a Thinker could be encouraging and supportive, if in the end, it helps their goals. J/P - Judgemental/Precieving: whether you need to have scheduled, planned actions, with everything calculated ahead (Judgmental), or prefer to work on the spot, change stuff when the situation needs it, or just because you want to at that situation (Precieving). Judgmental people could work in a more precieving way, if they already calculated every possibility, and Precieving person could have a planned activity, that they planned 5 seconds ago. Choosing between the two letters for every Indicator creates 16 personality types. ENTJ, INTJ, INTP, ENTP, ENFJ, INFJ, INFP, ENFP, ESTJ, ISTJ, ISFJ, ESFJ, ISTP, ISFP, ESFP, ESTP. About O.C.E.A.N (the big 5 personality traits): The name "O.C.E.A.N" is based on the name for each personality trait in that grouping: O - Openness: how open are you to new experiences. Those scoring higher could travel to new countries without much problem, and start new hobbies they never, or barely experienced before, while those scoring lower prefer more familiar activities. Meeting with new people would be harder, traveling to new countries would be harder as well. They could still do those, but it would be harder. C - contiousness: how organized are you as a person. Those score higher could schedule stuff for the future, make new plans without forgetting them (or at least having reminders), and have stuff planned out. Meanwhile, those score lower are less organized, have a hard time scheduling stuff, and when they do, they would suddenly remember they actually forgot their keys in their friend's house, and the wallet in the house of a different friend. Although it would go hand to hand with Precieving/Judgemental, a person who is Precieving could be l Adaptable while also organized, and a person who is Judgemental could have schedules for everything because they are aware they are a person who is very unorganized. E - Extrovert: already explained it. This is something that was discovered by Karl Gustav Jung, the idea of Extroverts and Introverts, so it is very common, and overlaps between the two. A - Agreeableness: about how much you agree with other people on topics, can adapt to other ideas, even if they are different and opposing to yours. Those with high levels of Agreeableness are more cooperative, and would agree to plans, even sometimes even if means those would effect them negatively, they would also be more open to new ideas, like I mentioned eariler, or aknowledge them and understand their basis. Those scoring lower on Agreeableness are less open to ideas, some would even refuse to listen to the ideas of others because they already disagree with them, and would refuse to stuff they don't like, even if they help them. N - neurotic: how emotional the person is. People who score higher on Neuriticism would be more emotional about stuff happening around them, both positively, but being happy about good stuff, but also negatively, by crying out loud when sad stuff happen, or getting angry when stuff don't go their way. Those who score lower on Neuriticism are less emotional about stuff happening around them. Both positively, like not being angry on stuff that happen to that don't go your way, and maybe even thinking rational when sad stuff happen which were inevitable, and not letting those cloud their judgement, but also Negatively, like not feeling sad and helping somebody who got hurt, or not feeling happy for good stuff that happened to friends. Both are two types of ways to measure personality, and although they overlap, they are not the same. I mentioned already about Precieving/Judgmental and Consciousness, but also, somebody could score lower on Neuriticism, while also being a Feeler. This could be a medic, who is used to stitching up wounds, and so they know that the best thing is to calm down, and not get stressed, which would increase pulse, and would increase blood flow to the area of the wound. Meanwhile, a Thinker could be also Neurotic. That is usually in films the mad Sociopath, who gets angry and violent when things don't go their way, like Rick Sanchez from Rick and Morty (who is a Thinker, ENTP or INTP), or they Joker, from the DC universe (who is a Thinker, ENTP), who would be thrilled and joyful when hurting people. You can also score lower on Agreeableness, while also being a Feeler. You would refuse listening to other people's opinions when the opinion could hurt other people, even for the greater good, like cutting off somebody from your life that you can't work with, because it would hurt their feelings. Meanwhile, Thinker people could score high on Agreeableness, meaning they want to find the better solution, and are willing to listen to others, and implement their ideas, so it would work. For example, in company brainstorming. Anyways, those are two out of many ways to measure personality. If you can name others, I would be glad to hear. Also, I am not an expert, so if I missed some stuff, let me know. Thanks for reading this long post about MBTI and the big 5 personality traits, and the differences between them.
